File: Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has faulted former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s plan to reopen Nigeria’s land borders if elected President in 2027, saying the country’s borders are not closed and therefore cannot be reopened.
Tunji-Ojo stated this in a statement on Saturday while responding to comments by Atiku on his plans for Nigeria’s land borders.
The minister said the Nigeria Immigration Service, which operates under the Ministry of Interior, was responsible for border and migration management, stressing that the current administration had continued to facilitate controlled movement and trade across the country’s borders.
“As the Minister of Interior who supervises the Nigeria Immigration Service, an agency of government in charge of border and migration management, it is expedient to state that Nigerian borders are not closed and so cannot be reopened,” he said.
