The 18-year-old scored 674 on this year's gaokao, China's national college entrance exam, Hunan Daily's Xinhunan outlet reported, making her the first locally schooled student from Ludian County in Yunnan Province admitted to the university in nearly four decades.
"I am very happy to receive the Peking University admission letter. I thank my mom and dad for persevering all this time. I have finally walked out of the mountains and fulfilled my Peking University dream," Luo said in footage published by Tencent News following the admission letter arrival on Aug. 5.
Her greatest wish, she added, was for her family to stay safe and well.
Footage of the delivery has spread across Chinese social platforms in the weeks since. China.com reported that Luo had worked the family stall through the weeks between the exam and the result, selling foraged wild mushrooms to supplement the household income.
Wild mushroom foraging runs through the summer rains in Yunnan, and stalls selling the day's haul are a seasonal fixture across the province's mountain counties.
