A fast-moving chain mudslide, triggered by a high-altitude glacier collapse on the Nepalese side, has caused heavy casualties and left many missing at a port on the China-Nepal border in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region. Rescuers immediately launched an all-out effort to reach the mudslide-hit port and search for the missing.
New Delhi: People from different parts of the country, who were rescued from flood-ravaged Nepal, on Saturday recounted the extent of devastation in the Himalayan Nation and considered themselves lucky to have escaped the catastrophe.
Migrant labourers from Bihar's Bettiah referred to the flash floods as "unimaginable", while speaking to IANS at their hometown.
One of the labourers said: "There were five to seven of us, three of our people went missing...There was a lot of water in the area, rising up to 20 feet. We took our children and ran up the hill. After an hour, when the water level receded, we went to look for them, but we could not find the three people."
"We were told to run away from there as people said there is no guarantee, the water (flood) might come again," he added.
