The 57th meeting of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council will be held on September 12, 2026, in New Delhi, according to an office memorandum issued by the GST Council Secretariat on August 28.As per the memorandum, the meeting will begin at 11:00 AM onwards on Saturday, September 12. Ahead of the Council meeting, an Officers' Meeting will be held a day earlier, on Friday, September 11, also starting at 11:00 AM in New Delhi.Also read: GST collections stay on track, rise 15% in JulyThe memorandum, signed by Arvind Shrivastava, Secretary to the Government of India and ex-officio Secretary to the GST Council, states that details of the venue and agenda items for both the 57th GST Council Meeting and the Officers' Meeting will be communicated in due course.The memorandum has been marked to the offices of the Union Finance Minister and the Minister of State for Finance, with a request to brief them about the meeting. It has also been sent to the Chief Secretaries of all state governments, Union Territories including Delhi, Puducherry and Jammu and Kashmir, with a request to inform the respective Finance or Taxation Ministers, or any other minister nominated as a Member of the GST Council.Also read: CBIC weighs centralised GST registration under one PANThe Chairman of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has been listed as a permanent invitee to the Council's proceedings, along with the Chief Executive Officer of the GST Network (GSTN).The GST Council, chaired by the Union Finance Minister and comprising state finance ministers, is the apex decision-making body on GST rates, exemptions, and administrative matters under India's indirect tax framework.
