Kathmandu: Nepal authorities have decided to bury 229 unidentified and unclaimed bodies recovered in southern Chitwan district following the devastating floods in the Bhote Koshi River, citing the risk of infection and the deteriorating condition of the remains.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), a total of 626 bodies recovered from the floods had been collected as of Saturday at 10 am.
The highest number - 233 - were recovered in Chitwan, it said.
As the number of bodies brought in following the massive floods of August 26 continued to rise, Chitwan district has been struggling to prevent the corpses from decomposing due to a lack of adequate space and facilities at hospitals in the district.
