The savings provider has issued guidance for customers about how it stores passwords.‌An account holder contacted Lloyds with a question about the app. They wanted to know why there is a "maximum password length" when deciding on your password. They queried: "I assume all passwords are hashed, so are a fixed hash length when stored, so, what's the logic behind an upper bound on the password? Unless you are storing them plain text?"‌Hashed passwords are where an online service provider turns your regular password into a string of characters, based on a particular formula.‌'Security measures'The idea is to protect your password if fraudsters gain access to their databases. In response to the customer, Lloyds said: "Password requirements are set as part of our security measures and may include character limits. We don't store passwords in plain text."Lloyds Bank customers may be feeling dubious about its online services, as there have recently been issues with the app. Thousands of customers had problems logging into the app and accessing their money on Wednesday, August 26.A Lloyds Banking Group spokesperson said after the incident was fixed: "Our apps are now back up and running. We're aware some customers experienced difficulties accessing them for a short period earlier today, and we worked quickly to restore services.
