Maiava and the Trojans will play both quarterbacks on their 2026 schedule. The results of these two games are not only the most important on USC’s schedule but will determine their aspirations of making the CFP. The only other Big Ten player ranked ahead of Maiava and Sayin is another Buckeye, Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, who’s the No. 1-ranked player in college football. In these games, Maiava’s leadership will be crucial to a Trojans victory. Last season, seven of Maiava’s 10 interceptions came in the Trojans' four losses. Three of those four losses came during the regular season on the road against the Illinois Fighting Illini, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and Oregon Ducks. This time it’s crucial that Maiava is consistent and takes care of the football in the Trojans' marquee matchups, including those on the road. Maiava and the Trojans open the season on Saturday against the San Jose State Spartans at the Coliseum, with the kickoff scheduled for 12 p.m. PT and the game broadcast on NBC.
