British far-right provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos has been arrested by US immigration authorities and is facing deportation after overstaying his visa. The 41-year-old former Breitbart editor was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport on Thursday, US time.He is being held in ICE custody in Louisiana pending his removal from the US, according to immigration records. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said Yiannopoulos entered the US legally through New York in May 2019 but later failed to attend an immigration hearing.“Yiannopoulos was issued a final order of removal by an Immigration Judge on July 22, after failing to show up for his immigration hearing,” DHS said.“He will remain in ICE custody pending removal.”DHS also posted a mugshot of Yiannopoulos. The controversial commentator rose to prominence as an editor at far-right website Breitbart and became known for provocative comments targeting feminism, Islam and transgender people. He was later closely associated with rapper Kanye West, serving as his chief of staff and working on his political campaign before the pair parted ways in 2024.West, now known as Ye, was scheduled to perform in New Orleans around the time of Yiannopoulos’ arrest, prompting speculation that the pair’s former associate was in Louisiana to attend the event.Yiannopoulos has previously voiced strong support for ICE’s deportation campaign, calling for millions of people to be deported and advocating for “on the spot deportation” of people unable to prove they were legally in the US.“Total legal immunity for ICE agents when they’re on duty,” Yiannopoulos wrote in September 2025. He also said last year supporters of the Trump administration must “insist” the government “deport millions and millions of people”.“Without that, nothing else matters,” Yiannopoulos said. His arrest comes seven years after he was denied a visa to enter Australia for a planned speaking tour.Australian authorities rejected his application after controversial comments he made about the Christchurch mosque massacre.
