Finnish prosecutors have asked the Court of Appeal to impose a longer prison sentence on Biafra separatist leader Simon Ekpa as he appeals his six-year jail term for terrorism-related offences, according to BBC Pidgin.
Ekpa is currently serving a six-year prison sentence imposed by the Päijät-Häme District Court in Finland after he was convicted of several offences, including terrorism-related crimes, aggravated tax fraud and violations of the Lawyers Act.
The District Court sentenced the 40-year-old former Lahti municipal politician on September 1, 2025, after finding him guilty of participating in the activities of a terrorist group and inciting the public to commit crimes for terrorist purposes.
The court also found that Ekpa had attempted to promote the independence of the self-declared Biafra region in southeastern Nigeria through illegal means between August 2021 and November 2024.
