US President Donald Trump has announced plans to allow American farmers and ranchers to directly process their own meat, in what he described as an effort to break the dominance of major meat processors and tackle high meat prices.
Trump made the announcement in a post on his Truth Social platform on Friday, saying he had authorised the preparation of legal documents to give farmers and ranchers the right to process their own food.
The President said farmers and ranchers had for years complained about difficulties dealing with large meat-processing companies, which he described as a “nasty Monopoly.”
“Ranchers and Farmers have always been a number one priority for me,” Trump wrote.
