The main competition at the Festa do Peão de Barretos, the Barretos International Rodeo, begins this Thursday (27) in the city of the same name in São Paulo. This year’s edition was boosted by a change in the schedule of the U.S. PBR (Professional Bull Riders), which this year does not coincide with the second weekend of the Brazilian event. As a result, foreign riders can participate, as well as Brazilians competing on the circuit this year.The competition, which runs through Sunday (30), is in its 33rd edition and brings together Brazilian, American, Mexican and other competitors at the rodeo stadium designed by architect Oscar Niemeyer, with R$400,000 ($77,000) in prize money.
This year, the festival invested R$30 million in infrastructure, created a new accommodation model and projects revenue of R$600 million ($115 million), of which R$150 million ($29 million) will come from ticket sales. The goal is to attract major national and international festivals to the venue, which already hosts events such as Barretos Motor Cycles and Insane Sound.
