The Los Angeles Chargers lost to the Los Angeles Rams 20-18 on Thursday night to cap their preseason.Coach Jim Harbaugh and general manager Joe Hortiz must trim the roster from 91 players to 53 players by 3 p.m. PT Sunday. Here is my 53-man roster prediction.Quarterbacks (2)Justin Herbert, Trey LanceWho’s out: DJ UiagaleleiUiagalelei closed the gap this training camp and preseason, but the Chargers will decide whether Lance gives them a better chance to win if they have to play a backup quarterback. Lance is a huge threat with his legs, and that valuable skill gives him an edge in this competition. Uiagalelei has impressive arm talent. This could be an even tighter battle in a year.Top Plays from Rams @ ChargersRunning backs (3)Omarion Hampton, Keaton Mitchell, Kimani VidalWho’s out: Jaret Patterson, Amar Johnson, Gregory DesrosiersDesrosiers was flashing throughout the preseason as a runner and on special teams. On Thursday night, he broke out with 118 rushing yards on nine carries. Between his coverage ability on punt team and his comfort level in attacking the edges as a runner, he should find a spot on the practice squad. The top three here feel firmly set. Mitchell has been dealing with an injury, but the Chargers have more than two weeks before they open their season against the Arizona Cardinals on Sept. 13.Receivers (6)Ladd McConkey, Quentin Johnston, Tre’ Harris, Brenen Thompson, KeAndre Lambert-Smith, Derius DavisWho’s out: Dalevon Campbell, JaQuae Jackson, Sincere Brown, Devonte Ross, Liam Clifford, Gary JenningsDavis is a game-breaking returner when healthy, and that will earn him a spot on the roster as the sixth receiver.Tight ends/fullbacks (4)Charlie Kolar, David Njoku, Oronde Gadsden, Alec IngoldWho’s out: Scott Matlock, Jerand Bradley, Evan Svoboda, Johnny PascuzziNo surprises here. This group is far more athletic than in recent seasons. Matlock was inconsistent this preseason. I don’t see room for him on the roster.
