Marianne Lee explores Ireland’s cyber landscape and why the country is becoming a hotbed of activity for multinationals and professionals developing their careers.
TrendAI’s vice-president of HR Marianne Lee’s journey into cybersecurity was, according to herself, not the traditional one. Having come from a professional services background, she had exposure to a range of industries, such as finance and IT, before eventually finding her feet in cyber, at a time when the sector was relatively new.
Lee told SiliconRepublic.com, “When I moved into cybersecurity, the sector was still relatively young and evolving. That turned out to be an advantage because the skills I’d built in more established industries, such as process discipline and understanding how organisations operate at scale, were exactly what a fast-growing sector needed.
“It meant I could add value from day one rather than starting from scratch. What’s kept me here is the pace of change. Cybersecurity is one of the few fields where every major technology trend eventually lands on your desk. Cloud, mobile, IoT and now AI have each completely changed the security landscape and what organisations need to protect against.”
This cross-functional journey she finds, while unusual, is highly appealing to professionals who want to move into a cyber role and who have an aptitude for solving problems and adapting to change.
