India’s industrial growth slowed to 6.7% in July 2026 from 7.3% in June, according to quick estimates released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. The July growth was measured against the same month a year earlier.Manufacturing grew 7.3% in July, compared with overall industrial growth of 6.7%. Electricity and gas supply recorded growth of 8.7%, while water supply, sewerage and waste management rose 7.4%. Mining and quarrying declined 0.9%.The IIP stood at 124.8 in July, compared with 117.0 in July 2025. The manufacturing index stood at 127.4, while the indices for electricity and gas supply, water supply, sewerage and waste management, and mining and quarrying were 133.5, 148.4 and 94.4, respectively.Manufacturing growth led by motor vehicles and electrical equipmentNineteen of the 23 manufacturing industry groups recorded positive growth in July.Electrical equipment manufacturing grew 28.3%, while motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers rose 22.2%. Machinery and equipment manufacturing, not elsewhere classified, grew 12.1%.Auto components, spares and accessories, passenger cars and commercial vehicles supported growth in the motor vehicle segment.Electrical apparatus for switching or protecting electrical circuits, UPS and solid-state drives, and connectors for optical fibres and cables contributed to growth in electrical equipment manufacturing.Construction machinery, pumps and turbines supported growth in the machinery and equipment segment.Capital goods record highest growthUnder the Use-Based Classification, capital goods recorded the highest growth at 16.1% in July.Consumer durables grew 10.5%, while intermediate goods rose 10%. Infrastructure and construction goods recorded growth of 6.9%, followed by primary goods at 4.1%.Consumer non-durables declined 1%.The July quick estimates were compiled using an 88.9% weighted response rate. The June 2026 index has undergone final revision based on updated data received from source agencies.The IIP for August 2026 will be released on September 28.
