Thirty-five years after its creation, Jigawa State is seeking to build on its relative stability by strengthening peace, justice and institutions while expanding economic opportunities for its growing population, Umar Namadi, Governor of Jigawa State, has said.
Governor Namadi made the commitment in an anniversary message marking the creation of Jigawa on August 27, 1991, when the state was carved out of the old Kano State by the military administration of Ibrahim Babangida.
The governor said the 35th anniversary should serve not only as an occasion to celebrate the state’s journey but also as a period for reflection on how to sustain development and build institutions capable of serving future generations.
He said the anniversary provided an opportunity to appreciate the sacrifices of the people who contributed to the creation and development of the state, while renewing the commitment to the ideals upon which Jigawa was founded.
According to him, the greatest tribute to the state’s founding fathers and past leaders is not simply remembering their names, but sustaining the principles of peace, justice, responsible governance and equitable opportunity.
