US says no Iran talks as Hormuz diplomacy intensifies
The United States said on Aug. 27 that it was not negotiating with Iran, even as Qatar stepped up diplomatic efforts over an Iran-Oman proposal for a temporary shipping corridor through the Strait of Hormuz.
“No negotiations are happening right now,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told Fox News, adding that this would continue until Iran came to the table “in a meaningful way.”
She said President Donald Trump continued to keep all options open and that the U.S. naval blockade of Iranian ports remained in effect.
Trump also dismissed the prospect of immediate talks.
