Post-protest unrest disrupts Jakarta commute
Friday morning saw the remnants of unrest following Thursday’s protest at the Senayan Legislative Complex, which spread into nearby Pejompongan and Slipi, where residents mounted a defense against unidentified groups via makeshift roadblocks.

Clashes following Thursday’s protest outside the Senayan Legislative Complex in Central Jakarta continued into Friday morning, with unidentified groups reportedly setting fire to vehicles and a police post and disrupting public mobility, including the Commuter Line.“For the safety and security of Commuter Line passengers, as of 4:50 a.m. local time, trains to and from Tanah Abang were still awaiting safe conditions before departing due to crowds [along] the Palmerah-Tanah Abang tracks,” rail service operator KAI Commuter said in a post on X early on Aug. 28.
