A person armed with a handgun was reported at the South Auckland home where police later found the bodies of a man and a woman, police say.Police were speaking with a 30-year-old male - who was in their custody - in relation to the double homicide, but said he was in custody for an unrelated offence.Emergency services were called to a home in Gambare Place Wattle Downs at 1.45pm on Thursday following a report of person armed with a handgun at the property and a woman injured, Detective Inspector Tofilau Faamanuia Va'aelua said.The woman was found dead when police arrived, Faamanuia Va'aelua said, and a man was found dead shortly after on the same property.The scene on Thursday.RNZ / Marika KhabaziBoth had fatal gunshot wounds, Faamanuia Va'aelua said.A forensic scene examination was underway on Friday at the scene."I can confirm we are speaking with a 30-year-old man who is currently in custody for an unrelated offence. We are working to determine whether this man is involved."That determination relies on the outcome of our enquiries, which we're prioritising with urgency," Faamanuia Va'aelua said."We are maintaining an open mind, hence why no charges have been laid at this stage."Alongside this, post-mortems for the two victims are underway today."Police at the scene.RNZ / Marika KhabaziA neighbour, who only wished to use his first name Robbie, said he was outside having a cigarette when the incident unfolded."We hear a car come bolting up the street and he stopped in front of that house there," he said."He slammed on the brakes, got out ran up the drive and all we hear after that is 'pop, pop, pop, pop'."Robbie said he then heard the car driving away and then the sound of a woman screaming.He said when police officers arrived, they surrounded the house and asked its occupants to come out and identify themselves."This was going on for 20 minutes, and nobody was coming out."He said the two people who died had only moved to the street last week, and he briefly spoke to them for the first time on Wednesday.He said he was in shock about what happened to them.Dianna Kereopa-Turner had lived in the street her whole life. She told RNZ she had just returned home when "havoc started going on" outside."We thought it was our nail gun for our sleepout that we're building going off ... and then it was quite loud," Kereopa-Turner said."But no, it was shooting. All we heard was gun.
