Saravanan gathered outside the Kuala Lumpur High Court here this morning in a show of solidarity with the MIC deputy president, who is expected to be charged with corruption today.The supporters began gathering as early as 7.30am with many dressed in black.The gathering was organised ahead of Saravanan’s appearance at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court, where he is scheduled to be charged at 9am.Saravanan, who is also the Tapah MP, confirmed yesterday that he would face charges over allegations linked to the recruitment of foreign workers during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2022.He has denied any wrongdoing and claimed that the case stemmed from a statement by a third party who had implicated him but later made a statutory declaration withdrawing the allegations.Saravanan also claimed that the individual, whom he identified as a key witness, died in July.The former minister has maintained that he never knew or communicated with the individual and said he was prepared to defend himself in court.The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) had earlier confirmed that a former minister would be charged today under Section 16 of the MACC Act 2009, which covers corruptly soliciting, receiving, giving, promising or offering gratification.There were extra police presence today at the court entrance in anticipation of the crowd.They were well wishers, MIC members and supporters of Saravanan.Saravanan arrived around 8.25am, was greeted with cheers and escorted into the court room.He is scheduled to appear before Sessions Court judge Azura Alwi at 9am today.
