Mumbai: State Bank of India's corporate loan prospects are as high as ₹5 lakh crore, reflecting the robust investment plans of companies in projects as diverse as renewables, battery storage and data centres, chairman CS Setty, who has completed two years at the helm, told ET in an exclusive interaction.The country's biggest lender by assets is retaining its target of raising $10 billion through FCNR(B) deposits, and its haul stands at $9 billion four days before the concessional window shuts.Also Read: Banks, companies better positioned to weather next downturn, says CS Setty, SBI, ChairmanDuring Setty's tenure, SBI raised ₹25,000 crore in equity from the market, its first such fundraising in eight years, while consolidated net profit rose to ₹85,168 crore in FY26.Setty is confident of meeting its 14-15% credit growth target, supported by visibility of about $4 billion in external commercial borrowing (ECB) demand from companies.The robustness of the banking system will ensure that the next adverse cycle could be better handled than in the past, he said. "But if an economic cycle arrives four or five years from now, banks and financial institutions are much better positioned to handle it because of their capital buffers and the robust risk profile of their books," Setty said.
