FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The Razorbacks are likely to have some good problems when the dust settles this season. After beating tepid expectations, the Hogs can find success behind a coach determined to win now with the coaching staff to prove it.Head Coach Ryan Silverfield brought Offensive Coordinator Tim Cramsey with him, and he managed to snag certified football genius Ron Roberts. The Godfather of creeper concepts calling plays for the defense, and mad scientist Cramsey is on the other side calling the offense.The roster has been revamped this offseason. As has been parroted all offseason, more than 80 percent of the players were not on last year's roster. But this is a whole new world in college. The transfer portal is still the wild west. But Silverfield seems poised to take advantage of this in ways his predecessors, and opponents, can not.With a new coaching staff, Silverfield has been able to pursue players his coaches need to run their playbooks. With that surgical targeting of skills, Silverfield may be able to exploit vulnerabilities in the market, especially when it comes to players with traits his schemes value. Of course, the inescapable reality of competition is that someone has to lose.Players who just miss the cut or don't secure the role they envisioned can just hit the portal. This 6-foot-2 corner is a slim sophomore who has the length, speed and hands to make him a real problem for opposing wide receivers.His size also makes him an intriguing slot option when teams have a dynamic move tight end. Although to hold up against tight ends, he will need to add weight. At Hinds Community College last year, Hairston Jr. tallied 18 total tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, one fumble recovery and two interceptions. In camp, he has rotated in but still needs to adjust to the level of competition. We all know Silverfield and the coaches have been harping on limiting explosives. The secondary might have its hands full against the freaky Chris Marshall and company, but the comments around the unit might mean we should expect attrition there.With both of Arkansas' top corners sitting on eligibility beyond this year, Hairston could parlay a rotational role for Roberts into a number one corner spot on another team via the portal.That might be intriguing for him, but he could also stick around and build something with Silverfield. While Harrison has worked in over his two years in Fayetteville, he hasn't been able to find solid playing time. The Hogs have a better wide receiver room than many realize.The top-loaded talent makes what Harrison brings less of a value add for Arkansas. That could change this year, but if Harrison still sees limited time, he could be a candidate to test the transfer waters.Of course, Harrison is 31 years old. After a career in major league baseball, Harrison retired and returned to college to play wideout.It's an interesting story of a pro athlete squeezing all of the value he has out of his body. But will it help the Hogs win. The 6-foot, 209-pound tailback is in direct competition with Braylen Russell and Cam Settles for playing time. That's not a good sign for his snap count.Sutton Smith's primary backup is fellow satellite back Markeylin Batton, so he will get snaps in relief. That leaves Parker in mostly a reserve role. Parker has the juice and talent to start for a good team, but the Razorbacks have an embarrassment of riches in the backfield. Still, there's room for a guy like Parker to steal carries in an offense that will attack defenses in myriad ways, if history is any indication.This offseason has shown us a Silverfield who is dead-set on remaking the Arkansas Razorbacks. The roster is sure to reflect that this season and beyond.
