The Indian National League (INL) district secretariat on Thursday (August 27, 2026) criticised those who spoke against Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama secretary and State Waqf Board member Umar Faizy Mukkam over his remarks at a CPI(M) seminar on the Waqf issue at Malappuram. The INL said Mr. Faizy was targeted for refusing to support changes to the status of Waqf land at Munambam to suit the interests of encroachers and their political backers. It alleged that those who follow the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leadership were using their positions to criticise Mr. Faizy. The INL also accused them of remaining silent over the IUML leadership’s alleged efforts to dissolve the State Waqf Board using the Central Waqf Amendment Bill as a pretext. It criticised K.P. Noushad Ali, MLA, saying that he was part of the government that backed in the High Court a petition by a BJP leader seeking the inclusion of two non-Muslims in the Waqf Board. The INL said Mr. Noushad should clarify his position on the Central Waqf Bill and the Munambam Waqf land dispute before criticising Mr. Faizy. It warned that attempts to make Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama and its institutions follow the IUML’s line could deepen divisions within the community.
