Lawyers’ bodies at the Rajasthan High Court’s principal seat in Jodhpur and the Bench in Jaipur on Thursday (August 27, 2026) said the issues raised by a Supreme Court judge about the High Court’s Acting Chief Justice should be resolved at an institutional forum in the judiciary. They also emphasised the need for appointing a permanent Chief Justice.The three Bar Associations in Jodhpur and Jaipur will shortly convene a formal meeting for deciding the course of action over the matter following three letters written by Justice Sandeep Mehta seeking the transfer of the High Court’s Acting Chief Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma.“Such issues should be taken up at an appropriate forum, as a public debate on them will only tarnish the image of the judiciary,” said Rajeev Sogarwal, president of the High Court Bar Association, Jaipur. Mr. Sogarwal said a permanent Chief Justice should be appointed in the High Court without delay.Besides the High Court Bar Association in Jaipur, the two recognised lawyers’ bodies in Jodhpur are the High Court Advocates’ Association and the High Court Lawyers’ Association.In his letters addressed to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, Justice Mehta sought the transfer of Justice Sharma, while alleging misuse of powers, favouritism, nepotism and administrative lapses. The Supreme Court judge also raised concerns over the handling of court cases and infrastructure decisions.Ranjeet Joshi, president of the High Court Advocates’ Association, Jodhpur, said the issues raised in Justice Mehta’s letter were serious. The representatives of the three lawyers’ bodies were in touch and would shortly decide the next course of action, he said.The High Court Advocates’ Association had earlier written to the CJI seeking a permanent Chief Justice in Rajasthan and had raised concerns over the relationship between the Bar and the Bench.
