Eight people from Bheemunipatnam who had travelled to Manasarovar and were stranded due to the flash floods are reported to be safe.On Thursday, they spoke to Bheemunipatnam MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao, who enquired about their safety and well-being.The group of tourists briefed the MLA on how they had a narrow escape from the floodwaters.The group includes Bheemunipatnam ZPTC member G. Venkatappadu and others. They informed the MLA that they had left Visakhapatnam on August 21 and reached Kathmandu in Nepal on August 22. They were reportedly travelling as part of a pilgrimage and had planned to proceed towards Manasarovar.During their conversation with Mr. Ganta, the group members said that the issue of visas from China had been delayed because of a large number of visitors travelling to Manasarovar. They informed Mr. Ganta that two tourist buses with visitors from West Bengal, which had travelled ahead of them, were reportedly missing in the floods.The group said they had a narrow escape when the flash floods suddenly hit the area while they were travelling by bus. Following warnings from local residents about the rising floodwaters, the bus driver immediately took a U-turn and drove the vehicle towards higher ground on a hill, helping passengers escape to safety.Mr. Ganta assured the group that the State government would extend all possible assistance to ensure their safe return.
