State-run Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, Bengaluru, has become the first government hospital in the country to receive certification for implementing the Association of Operating Room Nurses’ (AORN) “Lead the Way” quality improvement programme for safe surgery practices.The certification recognises the institute’s implementation of standards and best practices in perioperative care and safe surgical procedures. The programme is conducted by AORN in technical collaboration with 3M Life Sciences.Focus on patient safetyInstitute director B. Dinesh said the certification was another step in the institute’s efforts to strengthen patient safety and improve the quality of healthcare services.He said the certification, along with the institute’s NABH accreditation and National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) certification, placed greater responsibility on the hospital to maintain standards of quality and patient safety.Dr. Dinesh congratulated Dr. Naveena, Head of the Department of Microbiology and infection control officer, alongside the doctors and staff involved in implementing the programme.
