State SC Commission chairman K.S. Jawahar on Thursday (August 27, 2026) said that the Andhra Pradesh government allocated funds for various welfare and development schemes for Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) communities. He stressed that district level officials must make special efforts to enable their progress across social, political, economic, and educational spheres.During his visit to SPSR Nellore district along with SC Commission members Sripathi Babu, Mekkala Biksham, and Ramanujanamma, as well as Secretary Chinna Ramudu, he conducted a review meeting at Thikkana Pranganam in Collectorate on Thursday. He received 196 petitions from several Dalits and leaders of SC associations.The SC Commission chairman and members held a comprehensive discussion on the development and welfare schemes for the SC communities in the district, the implementation of reservation rules, the progress of atrocity cases, and instances of injustice faced by them in various cases. He said that the majority of the petitions were related to revenue issues, while a few were complaints against the police.Noting that victims often approach the SC Commission due to lack of justice in various cases, Mr. Jawahar urged the police to adopt a humanitarian approach in every instance and take necessary measures to ensure justice for impoverished Dalits. He directed the police to treat Dalits with respect and prioritise the resolution of their grievances.District Collector Himanshu Shukla said, “The government is taking all necessary measures for the welfare of SC population. Special efforts are being made to ensure that SC and ST communities receive the full benefits of schemes implemented in the agriculture, education, and employment sectors. Prompt action will be taken to resolve every issue brought to the Commission’s attention.”SP Dr. Ajitha Vejendla said that special measures will be taken to review all pending cases concerned to SCs and to ensure speedy justice for the victims. She assured support to the petitioners who submitted their grievances and asked them to meet her personally. She directed the officials at all police stations to resolve cases involving SC victims.
