In a swift turn of events, the Public Works Department (PWD) office in Yadgir faced legal consequences after court staff attached its movable properties here on Thursday.The action follows an order passed by the Principal District and Sessions Court, Yadgir, in an Execution Petition (EP) filed by S.S. Police Patil and Company.This comes shortly after the Yadgir City Municipal Council faced a similar legal action.According to advocate Mallikarjun V. Karigouda, who pleaded in favour of the company, court staff executed the attachment order and seized movable properties, including computer, chairs, tables, and other equipment from the office of the Public Works Executive Engineer.The dispute dates back to 2017-18 when S.S. Police Patil and Company undertook a road widening project stretching from Ambedkar Circle to Hattikuni Cross in Old Yadgir City.The Public Works Department reportedly failed to clear an initial outstanding balance of ₹30 lakh for the completed work.Following a directive from the High Court of Karnataka in a Writ Petition, the petitioner company approached an arbitration authority to recover the dues. The arbitration tribunal ruled in favor of the contractor company, ordering the Public Works Department to pay ₹80 lakh, including interest accrued due to payment delays.When the department failed to comply with the arbitrator’s award, the contractor petitioner filed an Execution Petition before the Principal District and Sessions Court in Yadgir.The court on August 4 ordered the attachment of the department’s movable properties to recover the accumulated dues, which now total ₹1.9 crore.Mr. Karigouda added that the seized properties are being transferred to the court premises for further legal proceedings.The Public Works officials have not issued an official statement regarding the court-ordered attachment.This marks the second instance of a government department in the district facing such enforcement of the law.Last month, court staff attached the movable assets of the Yadgir City Municipal Council over unpaid compensation owed to a woman whose property located in Old City was acquired.
