On Wednesday, sudden and massive flash floods hit the Nepal-Tibet border, killing at least 270 people, according to the Associated Press. Hundreds of others have been reported missing, per CNN, including at least 47 American tourists. The floods, which occurred without any rainfall, were likely due to a chunk of glacier in the Himalayas cascading into the valley below and causing an avalanche, per experts speaking to the New York Times. Drone footage circulating online shows floodwaters and mud crashing into villages and overwhelming buildings. Critical infrastructure, including bridges and roads, have been entirely swept away.
