Image: Moiz Salhi / AOPYle News14:41Finland is ending financial support of the Palestinian refugee aid organisation UNRWA, according to Finland's Minister for Foreign Trade and Development, Ville Tavio (Finns).Alongside more than a dozen other countries in 2024, Finland temporarily suspended funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, following accusations that 12 of the agency's employees may have been involved in the October 7 Hamas attacks on Israel. The organisation dismissed the suspected employees.At the time, Finland was under a four-year agreement (2023-2026) with UNRWA, pledging five million euros in humanitarian assistance per year. Finland continued to fulfil the agreement after it resumed the funding in March 2024.According to Tavio, a new potential channel for Finnish support could include the UN's new Palestine reconstruction fund."We are exploring different possibilities," Tavio said in a press release.
