Tenants at a Long Branch apartment complex have won a rare fight to stay in their homes, after a provincial tribunal rejected a sweeping plan to replace their buildings with five towers as tall as 29 storeys.

“The uncertainty is gone. It’s a huge relief,” said Patti Pokorchak, a resident of one of the older apartments at Lake Promenade and Long Branch Avenue on Toronto’s lakeshore, whose building would have been demolished to make room for the new towers.
