The Nigeria Police Force has challenged social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), to provide evidence to support his allegation that police officers manning checkpoints along major highways relay information about travellers to kidnappers and bandits.
The Force made the call in a statement issued on Thursday by its Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, following comments allegedly made by VDM at the recent Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Conference in Port Harcourt.
According to the police, the allegations were serious and required corresponding evidence, which it said had not been provided.
The Force said it “firmly rejects” the allegations as unsubstantiated and unfairly damaging to an institution responsible for protecting millions of Nigerians.
