MANILA, Philippines — The national government’s budget deficit widened more than fivefold to P106.3 billion in July as a sharp ramp-up in spending outpaced subdued revenue growth.

Latest data from the Bureau of the Treasury showed that the fiscal shortfall widened by 461.7 percent from P18.9 billion recorded in the same month last year.
