More than 1,300 people are reported missing in Nepal and Tibet after a catastrophic flash flood swept through the Himalayan border region, killing at least 165 people and leaving hundreds of tourists and foreign nationals unaccounted for.
Nepal's National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority said Thursday that 826 people remained missing in the country, while Chinese state media reported 558 missing in Tibet's Gyirong County. It was not immediately clear whether the two figures were entirely separate or whether some people could have been counted in both countries' totals.

Nepal's disaster agency said 823 people were initially still out of contact more than 24 hours after the flooding, including at least 579 tourists from Nepal and other countries. The Department of Tourism separately said 468 tourists and travelers remained out of contact, among them 393 foreigners and 75 Nepalis.
