Syrian President Ahmed Al Shara completed the country's first international Visa transaction, marking a milestone in Syria's financial reintegration.
Visa partnered with Fransabank Lebanon and Paymera to facilitate the transaction, following an agreement signed with Syria's central bank in December.
The US this week officially removed Syria from its state sponsors of terrorism list, easing the path for Syrian banks to forge international financial relationships.
Syria's economic reintegration has accelerated since the fall of the Assad regime, including completing its first Swift electronic transfer in June 2024 after 14 years.
