In a major push to cushion the hardship created by the country’s ongoing economic adjustments, the federal government yesterday unveiled a N140 billion social protection programme designed to tackle poverty by moving vulnerable Nigerians beyond temporary palliatives and towards sustainable livelihoods, economic empowerment, and self-reliance.
The scheme, known as Household Prosperity and Empowerment Social Protection Project (HOPE-SP), was launched at State House Banquet Hall, Abuja, alongside four other initiatives meant to strengthen Nigeria’s humanitarian response and poverty reduction architecture.
