The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) suspended the food license of Ayub’s in Fort on August 23, 2026, after finding food-safety violations, along with those of three other establishments in Mumbai and Nagpur, while taking separate action against food products in Pune, Jalgaon and Nagpur.The FDA also inspected 37 hotels, restaurants and dhabas, issued improvement notices to 31 establishments and suspended the licenses of four food establishments, and approximately 60,709.8 kg of stock worth ₹2,24,61,888 was seized.Ayub’s was inspected on August 22, 2026, when officials found extensive food safety flaws, including a lack of required temperature control facilities for food items, improper storage of high-risk food items like eggs at room temperature, and failure to properly segregate and store raw and cooked food items.The facility’s food-handling area was also unclean, with open and poorly maintained drains, stagnant water at food-handling spots, houseflies in the area, and a lack of pest control measures and necessary personal hygiene facilities for food handlers. Necessary testing of food items was not conducted, and there were also flaws in records and food traceability systems. These gaps in the basic food safety control system of the establishment create a risk of microbial contamination, cross-contamination between raw and cooked food, and unsafe food reaching consumers. The FDA suspended the FSSAI license of Ayub’s restaurant starting August 23, 2026.The food business license of Sankalp Mahila Audyogik Utpadak Sahakari Sanstha Maryadit, located at Wadia Estate in Kurla West, Mumbai, was suspended, and further legal and administrative action would be taken.In Nagpur, the licenses of Burhampur Jalebi Centre in Pratap Nagar and Step In Restaurant at Law College Square were suspended following routine inspections after they were allegedly found to be violating hygiene and food-safety requirements under Schedule 4 of the Food Safety and Standards Regulations. The two suspensions followed the regular administrative process and were not immediate suspensions.The FDA also seized 4,317 kg of food products worth approximately ₹7.27 lakh from Trimurti Enterprises in Wadaki, Pune, on August 24, which was allegedly operating without a valid food license or registration. The seized products included refined soybean oil, turmeric powder, toor dal and chana that were suspected to be substandard or improperly labelled. Samples have been sent for laboratory analysis.At Zam Zam Kirana in Adawad, Jalgaon district, officials found 396.8 kg of loose refined soybean oil, which they suspected was adulterated. Samples were collected, and a final determination will be made after laboratory testing.In another action in Nagpur, the FDA recorded 55,996 kg of roasted arecanut, valued at approximately ₹2.24 crore, at Gourish Agro Pvt.
