I’ve been driving my base 2026 Tesla Model Y with “Full Self Driving” V14 since May 26 — 3 months now — so here’s an update on what it can do and cannot do for me. I drove earlier versions of FSD on my 2019 Model 3 for 6+ years, so I have some perspective on the matter. On June 9th I had an accident that put my Model 3 to rest. I’m 86 and had been planning that my Model 3 would be my last car. However, it had now-obsolete Hardware 3, which wouldn’t run FSD 14 — FSD V14 was in use on newer cars and had been getting rave reviews. Due to the accident, I was forced into buying a new car. For me it had to be a battery electric. I do a couple of cross-country trips every year and I know that Tesla is still the only brand of EV that can be driven on all the US Interstates without worrying about finding a working charger. Also, I was addicted to FSD V12 and couldn’t wait to try V14. I find Elon Musk to be a despicable racist, but I make my buying decisions based on the merit of the product, not on the politics or behavior of the management.
