On the eve of the new college football season, ESPN is shaking up production leadership on College GameDay, Front Office Sports has confirmed.
Producer Jim Gaiero is being transferred into a broader role across ESPN’s live events portfolio, sources say. Matthew Garrett, Gaiero’s boss for the past three years as vice president of production, is taking over as executive producer of the venerable college football pregame show. His previous roles include serving as coordinating producer of Sunday NFL Countdown and Monday Night Countdown.

Gaiero led GameDay for the past 10 years—a period of major cast changes that included the addition of Pat McAfee and Nick Saban, the departure of David Pollack, and the retirement of Lee Corso.
With the sports media giant going all-out for its first-ever Super Bowl telecast, Gaiero, a 31-year ESPN veteran, is expected to produce pregame and related programming around ESPN/ABC’s simulcast of Super Bowl LXI on Feb. 14, 2027. Gaiero will also continue to produce college football games.
