When assessing the lay of the land for the midterm elections, one important GOP resource that’s been a bit iffy has been the reported $400 million or so in a “MAGA Inc.” super-PAC controlled directly by Donald Trump. Larded on top of the big financial advantage Republicans have in other super-PACs associated with the national party and the congressional caucuses, Trump’s tidy little stash is the kind of resource that might be deployed in the home stretch on behalf of cash-strapped campaigns like, say, Ken Paxton’s embattled Senate bid in Texas.

Nobody has been quite sure, though, and some Republicans have feared that the 47th president might sit on his treasure chest in anticipation of using it to ensure a suitable successor in 2028. But now, according to The Atlantic, it seems Trump may have other plans altogether — spending tons of money on the midterms, but to buttress his own image rather than to boost individual candidates:
