Energy bills are set to hit a three-year high after Ofgem said the energy price cap will rise 4% in October, driven by higher wholesale gas prices because of the Iran war.

It means the average household will pay £60-a-year more. The impact will be cushioned by the government cutting VAT on electricity from October, but many face a long, cold winter, too scared to turn their heating on.
