Delhi Police will not allow the protest march called by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on September 5 in New Delhi, nearly a week before the two-day BRICS leaders’ summit, a senior officer said on Wednesday.
The CJP had announced on August 24 a “peaceful march” from India Gate to Delhi Police headquarters against the Centre’s “failure” to honour the assurances that had prompted the group to end its 36-day agitation at Jantar Mantar on July 25. The All India Students’ Association (AISA) has offered support to the proposed 3-km march and demanded the withdrawal of FIRs against student protesters and an inquiry into allegations of pellet and bullet firing during earlier demonstrations.
AISA president Neha Bora said the issues that triggered the youth mobilisation remained unresolved, with cases still pending against students despite the government’s earlier commitment to withdraw them.
