The Keralam government has set up a help desk under the aegis of NoRKA-Roots, the field agency of the Department of Non-Resident Keralites Affairs (NoRKA), to provide emergency assistance, services and information regarding Keralites stranded in Nepal following the flash floods in the Himalayan nation.Read the updates of the Nepal flash floods on August 26, 2026.According to initial reports, the catastrophic flash floods that hit Nepal have claimed more than 100 lives so far, with the toll expected to rise, as hundreds of tourists, including foreign nationals, have also been reported missing. The NoRKA help desk was set up on the instructions of the Chief Minister’s Office to provide emergency assistance to those affected.People seeking assistance can contact the NoRKA Global Contact Centre at 1800 425 3939 (toll-free) or +91 88020 12345 (missed call from abroad). The Delhi NRK Development Officer has also been assigned to coordinate the relief and assistance activities, according to a statement issued by NoRKA-Roots.Indian Embassy opens helplineThe Indian Embassy in Nepal informed that it is in constant touch with the Nepali government to ensure the safe evacuation of Indian nationals in distress and to coordinate rescue operations. The Embassy has also opened special helpline numbers — +977 985 131 6807 and +977 970 910 7500 — to provide assistance to Indians affected by the floods.The Kerala government is closely monitoring the situation. As directed by the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary Bishwanath Sinha is in communication with the Ministry of External Affairs. If family members are unable to contact Malayali tourists in Nepal, they have been asked to inform the Chief Minister’s Office, according to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office.
