Saudi Arabia on Wednesday welcomed the integration of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) into the country’s military institutions.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s welcome of the integration of SDF forces into the military institutions of the brotherly Syrian Arab Republic, in a way that achieves security and stability for Syria and its brotherly people,” the ministry said in a statement.

The Kingdom also renewed its support for steps taken by the Syrian government “to fulfill the aspirations of the Syrian people in continuing the path of unity and development,” while wishing Syria and its people “security, peace and prosperity.”

SDF Chief Mazloum Abdi on Tuesday announced the dissolution of the Kurdish-led group as an independent military force.
