MANILA, Philippines — A Philippine think tank on Wednesday warned the government against reported foreign pressure regarding the detention of Chinese workers in raids on steel facilities, including alleged threats to arrest Filipinos in China if the workers are not released.
Stratbase Institute President Victor Andres “Dindo” Manhit said the Philippines should not allow foreign interests to influence how its agencies and courts enforce domestic laws.
“We must assert that no foreign government can dictate how Philippine agencies and courts enforce domestic laws or intimidate officials carrying out their duties,” Manhit said in a statement.
