Aug. 26 (UPI) -- Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy benched rookie Cooper Pratt for not running hard during a loss to the New York Mets.
The sequence occurred during a 3-2 extra-innings setback Tuesday in Flushing, N.Y. Pratt went 1 for 2 in the loss. The 22-year-old shortstop's lone hit was a bloop single near the right foul line in the fifth inning, which sparked his early exit.
"You've got to be locked in if you're going to play at this level," Murphy told reporters, when asked about Pratt's benching.
Pratt settled in against Mets starter Zac Thornton for his second -- and final -- at-bat of the night. The Brewers led 1-0 with one out in the fifth frame. Pratt hit the first pitch of the exchange just past the infield dirt.
