Türkiye’s Islamic History Atlas is bringing nearly 1,300 years of Islamic history together with geography through an interactive digital platform, allowing users to explore dynasties, rulers, scholars, cities and historical events through maps and timelines.
The atlas covers the Islamic world between the years 632 and 1924 and combines data compiled from different historical sources on an interactive map.
Users can explore the development of the Islamic world through a timeline and different layers, examining dynasties, rulers, scholars and historical centers according to their periods and geographical locations.
The latest version includes information on 186 Islamic dynasties and 830 rulers, along with 13,940 biographical records from Zirikli’s biographical dictionary, 8,528 scholar biographies from the Türkiye Diyanet Foundation’s Encyclopedia of Islam and 12,954 geographical records from Yaqut al-Hamawi’s geographical dictionary.
The atlas also contains records of 3,458 mints, 2,049 settlements documented by 10th-century geographer al-Muqaddasi, 317 stops from Ibn Battuta’s travels, 5,444 stops from Ottoman traveler Evliya Çelebi and 801 structures.
