Toyota has filed a new NHTSA safety recall covering 48,280 Tacoma trucks after finding that the external oil reservoirs on the Bilstein shock absorbers can corrode and separate from the damper body. The campaign, numbered 26V514, covers certain 2024–2025 Tacoma trucks equipped with those shocks, and the full report is posted on NHTSA’s site.
Toyota says a detached reservoir can drop onto the road while the truck is moving, creating a hazard for the driver and anyone nearby. Owner notification letters are scheduled to start going out on September 21, 2026, with most customers told to expect contact by early October.
