Glean unveils Tau desktop workspace, claims token-cost edge over Claude
Glean Technologies Inc. today unveiled Glean Tau, a desktop workspace that connects the company’s enterprise artificial intelligence to a user’s local files, applications and code.
The launch anchors a broad slate of product news at Glean:GO, the company’s conference this week in San Francisco. Packaged with it were benchmark numbers aimed at Anthropic PBC. Glean said its testing shows a 5.2-times token-cost advantage per query over Claude Cowork, Anthropic’s agentic work product, and that Glean is preferred 3.6 times as often.
Tau runs on an open-source harness and pairs Glean’s enterprise context with whatever sits on the machine. The pitch is less of what Glean calls botsitting, the time users spend hunting for the right files, feeding in background and steering a model through each step. Tau can plan multistep work, carry it out on a user’s behalf and check its own output.
Glean listed file organization, document analysis and spreadsheet building among the jobs it handles. Coding and engineering workflows are an early use case, though the company said it built Tau for employees across the business, with the platform’s existing governance and cost controls carried over.
