The NWSL has a new media partner to replace Victory+. The league reached a deal with Roku that will put its package of Sunday night matches on the free Roku Sports Channel beginning Aug. 30.Roku will become the exclusive streaming home of eight NWSL Sunday night matches over the remainder of the 2026 season before expanding to 25 games in 2027, the league said. The agreement gives the NWSL a replacement for the Sunday night slate previously carried by Victory+, which the league abruptly dropped last month.Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed, but the league said Roku emerged from a competitive process, citing the platform’s reach, accessibility and ability to make matches easier for fans to discover.“We were incredibly encouraged by the level of interest in this package and the competitiveness of the process, which speaks to the growing value of NWSL media rights,” NWSL commissioner Jessica Berman told The Athletic. “Ultimately, Roku stood out as the right partner because of its tremendous scale, commitment to discoverability and ability to reach both existing fans and entirely new audiences. We’re excited to build on an existing relationship with Roku at an important moment for our league and for women’s soccer.”The deal comes less than a month after the NWSL terminated its agreement with Victory+, the free streaming platform. The Athletic previously reported that unfulfilled payments from Victory+ contributed to the league’s decision to end the relationship, according to league sources that spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the deal freely. The NWSL began its partnership with Victory+ this season. The streaming company joined the league as its fifth national media partner under an agreement announced in September and was scheduled to carry 57 matches in both 2026 and 2027, including 25 exclusive Sunday night broadcasts each season. The addition of Victory+ had been designed in part to accommodate the NWSL’s growing inventory after expansion to 16 teams increased the regular-season schedule from 182 matches in 2025 to 240 this year. After terminating the agreement, the NWSL moved matches that were scheduled for Victory+ to NWSL+, its free direct-to-consumer streaming service, while it sought another distribution partner. Roku offers a considerably larger distribution platform while also preserving the free-access strategy the league pursued with Victory+. The Roku Sports Channel is available free and without a subscription through The Roku Channel, including on Roku devices and TVs as well as Amazon Fire TV, Samsung TVs, Google TVs, mobile devices and the web. Roku said its platform reaches more than half of U.S. streaming households.“As we continue to grow the NWSL’s audience, we’re focused on making it as easy as possible for fans to find and watch our matches wherever they are,” NWSL chief marketing officer Rachel Epstein said in a statement. “Roku’s tremendous scale and accessibility make them an exciting partner as we bring more NWSL matches to more viewers and continue building consistent destinations for fans to engage with our league.”The Roku agreement does not change the NWSL’s existing national broadcast arrangements with CBS Sports, ESPN, Prime Video and Scripps Sports’ ION.Those agreements are part of the league’s four-year media rights cycle running through the 2027 season. The original package was valued by the league at a combined $60 million annually, including production costs and marketing commitments, a substantial increase from the approximately $1.5 million per year the league received under its previous agreement. The first Roku broadcast will feature Seattle Reign FC against the Houston Dash on Sunday. Roku’s eight-game package this season will run through Oct. 25, concluding with San Diego Wave FC against Boston Legacy FC.Beginning in 2027, the Roku Sports Channel will carry an NWSL Sunday night match every week of the regular season, restoring the consistent weekly window the league had intended to build with Victory+.The NWSL’s negotiations were supported by global sports marketing agency IMG.
