“Jimmy Kimmel Live” guest host Jelly Roll doubled down on mocking President Donald Trump during Tuesday night’s show, after waves of MAGA backlash. The rapper and singer kicked off his monologue by addressing the apparent shock many viewers expressed after Monday’s show, where Jelly Roll scorned the president for his fatphobic insults.“You know what? I did a couple of jokes like that last night in case y’all didn’t hear about it, and it’s because I’m hosting a damn late-night show,” Jelly Roll said on Tuesday. “That’s where you talk about the news and you make jokes. But I guess apparently because I did it, it really messed with people’s heads.” Jelly Roll said he thought it was the “weirdest thing he’s ever done to stun people.” “Who would have guessed I’d get in more trouble with the president than Rosie O’Donnell?” Jelly Roll said. He added that many people online, mostly conservatives, were mad that he didn’t treat the president with respect. “Let’s be honest for a second. Any U.S. president should be able to handle a few jokes, right?” Jelly Roll said. “They should also be able to handle gas prices, healthcare, and the occasional international conflict.” The rapper also said if people wanted him to make fun of former Vice President Kamala Harris, they “should’ve voted for her.” Jelly Roll said he didn’t care if people stopped listening to his music because he made fun of Trump and that he will keep “speaking his truth.” Jelly Roll has often been perceived as conservative or a MAGA supporter due to his status as a country artist, but has said in the past he holds no political affiliation. “It is important to establish earlier that I am a musician and that I have no political alliance,” he said before Congress while giving testimony about the fentanyl crisis in 2024. “I am neither Democrat nor Republican. In fact, because of my past, my right to vote has been restricted. Thus far, I have never paid attention to a political race in my life. Ironically, I think that makes me the perfect person to speak about this.”However, the rapper did meet then-President-elect Trump during a UFC event in December 2024. Jelly Roll defended meeting Trump at the time by saying he did it out of respect for the presidency. “I don’t care who you were, if you were in that building, the hair on your skin stood up,” he said. “And you looked, and all you’re watching is the president-elect, who got elected like, eight days ago, walking in, with his entire Cabinet with him — almost. You know what I mean? And his kids and his grandchildren. And it was powerful, dude. Like I don’t care what side of the aisle you’re on.”Nonetheless, conservative figures on social media were none-too-pleased by Jelly Roll’s perceived betrayal of Trump.
